Hi, thank you for visiting my blog. I’ve drawn inconsistently over the years. I am looking to change that and develop a consistent drawing habit. So, I am starting this blog. It will be a collection of drawings. I felt that I needed a north star to guide me, so I decide to do a challenge by one of my favorite art Youtubers, Kesh. He has an 100 Days of Sketching challenge. I believe that it had originally started in August. So, I am late. Better late than never though. I will post a drawing and self-critique daily.

Here is the list of prompts from the 100 Days of Sketching challenge:

You can join this challenge, but providing your email to his library of content: https://keshart.in/drawingcamplibrary/

It also gets you access to his newsletter.

What do I like about this drawing?

The drawing was pretty simple to do. So, it was a great prompt to start with. It is not a direct copy of the reference image. But, I believe that it captures the essence of the cactus well enough.

What frustrates me about this drawing?

I was concerned that the base drawing did not immediately evoke a cactus. So, I added lines to represent the spikes that are commonly associate with cactus. The drawing looks flat. So, the spikes seem a bit off to me. The cactus like arms look to be too far from the main body of the cactus.

How does this compare to my previous drawings?

I am starting fresh with this challenge. So, I will not be comparing it to previous drawings in the post. However, I hope that over the course of this challenge the following will improve: line quality, understanding of value, and development of forms.

Thank you!

You have made it through the end of the post. Thank you for checking out my website. If you have any feedback on the drawing, please leave a comment.
